Staff Spotlight: Mariana Herrera

TOC Logistics is delighted to welcome Mariana Herrera to our expert team of logistics and supply chain management professionals. Mariana is our new Global Business Development Manager and she comes to us with more than 30 years of industry experience.

Mariana was born and raised in Chicago and started her career in logistics and supply chain management in 1985 in an entry-level position. She spent the first half of her career working in operations serving freight forwarders, and the second half of her career was spent working in sales.

During her sales career, Mariana worked extensively with NVOCC’s, including TOC Logistics. Our team built a solid relationship with her during the years and we are extremely excited to now have her on our team. We have experienced first-hand her work ethic, tenacity, and passion for the business, and she is a perfect fit when it came time for us to add another member to our ever-growing team.

Mariana’s background in sales has made her extremely skilled when it comes to building and maintaining solid relationships in the industry, and that is invaluable. We know people like doing business with people that they like and trust, and that is something people see in Mariana.

As a part of welcoming Mariana to the team, we sat down and asked her a few questions about her new role and the industry in general and have included some highlights here:


What made you gravitate towards TOC Logistics?

I was drawn to TOC Logistics because of the way they approach business. Their team is very solutions-oriented, as opposed to price-driven, which is rare these days. I have known members of the TOC Logistics team for years, and I knew that working with them would be very rewarding.


What are you most excited about in your new role?

The opportunity I have been given in this new role is something I am so grateful for. TOC has grown organically over the years, but to be in a position where I can directly help their team expand the company’s global footprint, and reach into new markets and industries, is something I am extremely excited about. The possibilities for this company are truly endless, and I am dedicated to helping TOC Logistics continue to grow.


What do you like most about the logistics and supply chain industry?

What don’t I like? This industry is all about relationships, and I love that. When I started in 1985, there were no computers, and all business was done over the phone or in person, which meant you really got to know people. I still thrive on those relationships and get excited about meeting new people. Being in this industry also gives you the opportunity to meet and work with people from all around the globe. You have the chance to learn about new cultures and customs, and I find it fascinating.

I also love the solutions aspect of supply chain management. Being able to look at an issue a customer is having and then come up with a solution that meets their needs and saves them both time and money is extremely satisfying. It’s almost like a puzzle.


What have you learned during your first few weeks with TOC Logistics?

I have been in this industry for over thirty years, but jumping back into the operations side of the business has made me realize that there is something new to learn every single day. Whether it is changing regulations or customs policies, this industry is constantly changing, and I am always open to learning.
