The Best Things to Do in Indianapolis

Jul 11, 2019Blog

It’s no secret that we love our Indianapolis roots, not only because we are at America’s crossroads, but because there is truly something for everyone in our city. Whether you like to explore the great outdoors, discover new foods and cultures, or race down a track, Indy has a little slice of city for you.

No matter if you’re a longtime resident or just visiting for a few days, make sure you check out our favorite spots in the bustling city. Just don’t forget to stop by and say “Hi!” to us!

Monon Rail Trail

Hop on a Pacers bike (only $8 for a bike pass!) or throw on your tennis shoes and hit the Mo-non Trail. This trail is on the outskirts of the city, but we promise the views are worth it. Tackle all 17 miles at once or plan your loop. There are many places to get on and off the trail all around Indianapolis.

If you’ll be visiting in August, this trail will lead you to the Indiana State Fair, where you’re bound to find more fun. This is a great trail for the whole family!

Off to the Races

Indianapolis is famously known for the Indy 500, so let your inner speed demon out on an off-track 500 experience. From the Racing Museum to a race simulator at the Dallara Factory, there’s a fun racing experience waiting for you.

If you have kids in tow, we recommend taking the whole family to the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis where kids can interact with exhibits and take part in outdoor experiences like the Tree of Sports.

Taste the City

Taste the flavors of Indy and beyond when you take on the Indianapolis Cultural Trail dining tour. Whether you choose to do the walking or biking tour is up to you, but if you are a foodie, this is the best way to taste all that our city has to offer.

If you would rather cook your own meal during your stay, make sure to stop at the Garfield Park Farmers Market for fresh produce and a meat tray from Goose the Market.

Duckpin Bowling

If there is one thing you do on this list, let it be this: duckpin bowling. This vintage bowling alley at the top of the Fountain Square Theatre is a piece of Indy history you need to see to appreciate. Don’t think it’ll be fun? What if we told you that duckpin bowling was one of Babe Ruth’s favorite pastimes? Seriously, don’t leave Indianapolis until you play at least one match of this miniature game.
